AMACAYACU NATIONAL PARK & COMMUNITIES PLAN

DAY 1 – Witoto Community and Jungle Walk
Arrival in Leticia and ground transfer to a Witoto community.
Start of a terra firme jungle walk to observe local flora, fauna, and useful ethnobotanical species.
Visit to traditional crops such as coca, plantain, and bitter cassava.
Arrival at the maloca for recognition of culturally significant plants and their uses.
Night walk to observe nocturnal wildlife and natural phenomena such as bioluminescent fungi.
Introductory talk about the Witoto culture and the role of the maloca.
Overnight in hammocks with mosquito nets inside the maloca.
DAY 2 – San Pedro Community and Tekuna Lodge Reserve
Breakfast and jungle hike toward the Ticuna community of San Pedro, identifying species and learning about forest dynamics.
Cultural exchange with community residents and brief introduction to the Ticuna language.
Navigation through the Yahuarcaca creek in local wooden motorboats toward Tekuna Lodge (only during high-water season).
Arrival and lunch at Tekuna Lodge.
Rest in hammocks.
Artisanal fishing activity.
Visit to the Yahuarcaca Lakes with the option of swimming.
Dinner and nocturnal canoeing on the lake for wildlife observation.
Overnight at Tekuna Lodge (cabins).
DAY 3 – Monkey Island, Ticuna Community, and Puerto Nariño
Breakfast and navigation to Monkey Island for observation of resident primate species.
Visit to a Ticuna community with time for cultural exchange and crafts.
Lunch at Amazon Açaí Lodge.
Transfer to Puerto Nariño and visit to the Natutama Interpretation Center to learn about aquatic conservation efforts.
Navigation toward the Tarapoto Lakes for fishing and observation of pink and gray river dolphins.
Return to Amazon Açaí Lodge and dinner.
DAY 4 – Amacayacú National Park and Mocagua Community
Early breakfast and boat ride to San Martín de Amacayacú.
Visit and walk through the community.
Guided 4-hour jungle trek inside Amacayacú National Natural Park toward the community of Palmeras.
Boat transfer to Mocagua community.
Lunch and guided visit through homes and crops.
Hike along the Maikuchiga trail to the monkey rehabilitation center.
Explanation of rehabilitation stages, ecology of New World primates, and the community-led conservation program.
Return to Amazon Açaí Lodge and dinner.
DAY 5 – Return and City Tour
Breakfast and speedboat transfer to Leticia.
Leticia & Tabatinga city tour (approx. 2 hours): market, artisan galleries, border area, commercial district, and Comara viewpoint.
Transfer to the airport.
